Nevertheless, Netflix movies sit on a pedestal that will entertain you without being a blockbuster.

Grab the popcorn and sit back to enjoy these movies for the weekend or after the work day’s stress.

Are you ready? Let’s delve right in – shall we?

1. The Italian Job (2003)

  • Director: F. Gary Gray
  • Star Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, and Mos Def.

The Italian Job is one of the best movies you should watch if you love wheel action.

The money follows a team of robbers after they were betrayed by one of them in a heist job.

Together, they planned the execution of the job in Venice, Italy. It was a perfect plan until one decided to keep the score to himself.

He goes after the crew, killing one member in the process. Notwithstanding, the rest survive and plan their revenge on him.

It’s fun to watch this team brazenly execute their plan to steal back the gold and get their revenge on the traitor.

Put on your screen, sit back, and enjoy an entertaining car action flick. Thankfully, this film is not violent or profane but maintains its car theme.

Bringing those little Mini Coopers to the screen makes it one of the best car movies on Netflix. You will have a thrilling ride when you watch this film.

The Italian Job is fast-paced and won’t bore you with unnecessary dialogue.

It also includes funny moments here and there to lighten up the mood. Quickly grab popcorn and enjoy this old-time classic.

2. Wheelman (2017)

  • Director: Jeremy Rush
  • Star Cast: Joe Carnahan, Craig, Chapman, Frank Grillo, J. Todd Harris, Myles Nestel, and Scott C. Silver

What would you do if you were behind the wheel of a getaway vehicle with a daughter in danger and the gang after you? This unfortunate scenario is the fate of Frank Grillo as he races to stay alive and return to his daughter.

The Wheelman explores the case of stealing from a gang after a bank robbery.

A mysterious caller calls the getaway driver, informing him to take the money and leave the men behind.

However, this doesn’t go well with the man who set up the robbery.

As you would expect, the wheelman faces backlash from the gang while tailed by an unknown biker. Nevertheless, there is betrayal in the air.

Expect a lot of wheel action in this film, but don’t raise your expectations too high.

This immersive experience brings the driving feel to you in a well-delivered action sequence.

The movie doesn’t blow off with sick car chases like you would get in Baby Driver.

The plot is not as deep as Drive, but its tense and fast-paced nature will keep your eyes on the screen. In addition, the film uses its run time efficiently, avoiding needless drama.

Don’t assume you can predict the movie all the way. Watch it, enjoy the unpredictability, and enjoy the pleasant sound effects.

That being said, Frank Grillo plays his role perfectly, getting into character in no time.

3. Drive (2019)

  • Director: Tarun Mansukhani
  • Star Cast: Sushant Singh Rajput, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vikramjeet Virk, Sapna Pabbi, Pankaj Tripathi, and Boman Irani

Drive is not the car movie you would expect, but it has its moments. Let’s drive through this movie and see what you will get if you decide to get it on Netflix.

The film follows plans to rob the Rashtrapati Bhavan. How did they get to that point? Vibha Sing, a corrupt bureaucrat in the Accounts Department of the Indian Government, coercively gets money from her clients.

Since their money was stolen or confiscated, these clients have had no choice but to give specific percentages of it.

Vibha enjoys the support of her assistant, Hamid Ibrahim; together, they store the money in the basement of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

However, things change when Ojiha, the Honorary Secretary to the Prime Minister, calls her into an investigation of the notorious criminal King. Soon, King reveals that his next target is the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

As you would expect, Vibha does everything she can to stop this from happening.

The investigative team enlists Raj’s help from the technical department to decipher the gang’s messages.

Notwithstanding, the heist happens as planned. The two key players are Samar and Tara.

While Samar intends to convert the stolen money into diamonds, Tara has her plans.

The robbers put Vibha and her team off guard and stole the money.

Afterward, the film gives us a plot twist: It reveals Tara as the King but throws Samar into the hands of the police.

4. Borning 3: Asphalt Burning (2020)

  • Director: Hallyard Brain
  • Star Cast: Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Sven Nordin, and Otto Jespersen

What better way to fight for your marriage than to battle it out on the Nürburgring?

Asphalt Burning is an intense track movie. It may not rank high as the best car movie on Netflix, but it delivers in its way.

The movie follows Roy as he accepts a challenge from a new foe to race at the iconic Nürburgring track in Germany. He must win this race to save his marriage.

Before the race, Roy encounters several problems on his way to Møre og Romsdal to marry his girlfriend at the top of Trollstigen.

In a turn of events, he sets off for Germany with his trusted daughters, Nina and Nybakken.

Did he win the race at this track, which consumed many vehicles? There is only one way to find out, and you can stream it live on Netflix right now.

5. Pegasus (2019)

  • Director: Han Han
  • Star Cast: Shen Teng and Huang Jingyu

Pegasus was one of the best Han movies, flying past his other two movies.

Han Han is a professional rally driver, best-selling author, and, for those who don’t know, China’s most popular blogger.

With such accolades under his name, you would expect Pegasus to be one of the best car movies on Netflix.

Though it doesn’t disappoint, there are better options to stream one.

This film follows Zhang Chi’s illustrious career in the Bayinbrook rally, having won five of them in a stretch.

Zhang has always had this dream since he was a child. Nevertheless, he loses his license after participating in illegal drag racing.

The next five years of suspension are not without adventure. Zhang abides by the law and sets up a book stand for his family. However, he does all that without getting behind the wheel of a car.

However, his spirits yearn for the circuit as he comes out of suspension. He pairs up with the navigator of the year, Sun Yuan.

Together, they hit the tracks again and bring back all the fun.

6. 4L (2019)

  • Director: Gerardo Olivares
  • Star Cast: Jean Reno, Hovik Keuchkerian, and Susana Abaitua

4L is not precisely the kind of high-octane car movie you would expect.

Instead, it is a glimmering adventure drama. The film follows a group of friends as they embark on a dangerous journey.

Tocho travels across France to convince Jean Pierre to travel to Timbuktu, Mali.

It was the duo’s last chance to see their old friend Joseba. However, things didn’t go as planned.

Joseba’s daughter and rebel, Ely, joins them on the journey from Spain to Mali.

The trio usually traveled to Mali to sell race cars a long time ago but got separated when Joseba decided to settle there.

Joseba married an African woman after staying back in Timbuktu. However, the journey wasn’t smooth.

The three companions pass through different travails as they travel through the desert to visit their friend and father.

Their travels seem endless, from detainment at customs control to swindling by the Tuaregs. To crown it all, they discover a young African stowaway who hid in their car.

Watching the trio of unlikely traveling companions fight through the dangerous desert amidst a lack of water is fun.

Nevertheless, its blend of humor, drama, and thrills makes it one of the best car movies on Netflix.

7. Initial D (2005)

  • Director: Andrew Lau and Alan Mak
  • Star Cast: Jay Chou, Anne Suzuki, Edison Chen, Anthony Wong, Shawn Yue, Chapman To, Jordan Chan, and Kenny Bee

Despite stiff competition from stellar acts like Edison Chen, Kenny Bee, and Anthony Wong, Jay Chou remains the star in this film.

He plays the role of a petrol attendant who works at a fuel kiosk daily, delivers tofu for his dad in the wee hours, and sharpens his driving along the route.

The winding mountain road is challenging to follow, but Jay learns the terrain and gets faster each time.

It would not be very reassuring if he didn’t make progress after five years on the route.

Nonetheless, he faces competition when a group of streetcar racers prepares to conquer the route.

The movie shares similarities with Hollywood’s The Fast and the Furious series—the fast cars, the beautiful babes, and the rivalry between drivers.

You will even enjoy POV cinematography, returning to the dashboard and the rear seat. In addition, there is a helicopter view to top it off.

However, the film delivers uniquely, making it one of the best car movies on Netflix.

The comic book background offered some depth to the storyline and helped keep it accurate to the Japanese setting.

One thing I’d ask to be improved is the repetitive nature of the races. Notwithstanding, the drift technique will satisfy you as the highlight of the film’s races.

Pick your favorite and watch the drivers challenge each other on the winding mountain route. Please let us know if your choice of driver won in the end.

8. Grindhouse: Death Proof (2007)

  • Director: Quentin Tarantino
  • Star Cast: Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan, Sydney Poitier, Tracie Thoms, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead

How did a “death-proof” stunt car become the instrument of death? Quentin Tarantino explores this mystery in this high-octane action flick.

Mike, a successful Hollywood stuntman, uses his car to kill his victims, and this psychopath makes their death look like a car accident.

The film opens with a scene starring four ladies reuniting in a bar to drink and smoke.

The former Hollywood stuntman offers to drive them to Lake LBJ for their weekend. However, Pam discovers that he is a psychopath, but he goes ahead to kill the girls.

Fourteen years later, Mike resurfaces in Lebanon and hatches another evil plan for a new group of girls.

Notwithstanding, he faces stiff resistance from the team. Who wouldn’t? When the team consists of two stuntwomen.

Is Death Proof entertaining? Yes, it is one of the best car movies on Netflix. The style of B-movies might have influenced it, but it is full of action and violence.

The dialog, posters, and billboards make several references to other movies, but the one that stands out is “Vanishing Point.”

The car races and accidents have spectacular choreography, with stuntwoman Zoë Bell at her best.

Nonetheless, prepare for an abrupt end as the movie leaves a few characters hanging.

9. Night Teeth (2021)

  • Director: Adam Randall
  • Star Cast: Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Debby Ryan, Lucy Fry, Raul Castillo, Sydney Sweeney, Megan Fox, and Alfie Allen

Night Teeth mixes power and greed with car action following the silent war between vampires and humans.

In the film, two friends, Blaire and Zoe, hire Benny, a freelance chauffeur, to take them to several LA nightclubs.

However, Benny’s night as his brother’s replacement finds him embroiled in a secret war. He had no idea his passengers were vampires on a mission to unleash chaos.

Vampires and humans have co-existed peacefully for centuries until Victor, a wealthy vampire lord, decides to subvert the system. Be kidnaps Jay’s girlfriend in his bid to grab power.

Nevertheless, he doesn’t end there as he plans to take out his fellow vampire lord, leaving him with all the power. Does he succeed?

Soon, Jay and his allies set out to find every vampire in LA, catching Benny in the heat of the battle.

Overall, this film has a well-developed storyline, making it one of the best car movies on Netflix.

The three main characters delivered decent performances, making sense of the movie. But you’ll have to wade through the heavy dialog.

I wish this film expanded on its mythology a bit longer to explain certain things, like the strength of Benny’s vampire passengers. The movie feels like it has a backstory that isn’t explored.

Maybe Netflix will make a sequel, but that is unlikely. Enjoy what you have now.

10. Hajwala: The Missing Engine (2016)

  • Director: Ali Bin Matar, Ibrahim Bin Mohamed, and Hasan Aliaberi
  • Star Cast: Anwar Aliabri, Haleem Aliabri, and Omar Ali

Khalid and Kehailan, two team leaders, enter a crazy competition in this film.

They are both passionate about car racing, but the challenge they are about to face will change their lives forever.

As we will see later, this first installment in the series was a big hit when it premiered in the UAE.

Notwithstanding, you must keep an open mind and lower your expectations to enjoy this movie.

11. Hajwala: Mysterious Mission (2018)

  • Director: Ibrahim Bin Mohamed
  • Star Cast: Ahmed El Mohamed, Hussain Al Hosani, and Abdo Feghali

Ibrahim Mohamed returns to direct the sequel to The Missing Engine.

Like the previous installment, this film found massive reception in the United Arab Emirates.

New stars come into this sequel to boost it over its predecessor. But can it keep you entertained? There is only one way to find out.
