Due to its design, the Umidigi A9 Pro can be called a smartphone built for the current coronavirus pandemic.

This smartphone has gained much attention, as its secret weapon and major selling point is the non-contact infrared thermometer.

But what else does this device have? I know you are wondering if it’s just a thermometer. We will take you on a brief journey to see all its features and its price in Nigeria.

If you are in a hurry, you can look at the quick specifications table below.

Design and Build Quality

Regarding aesthetics, Umidigi always tries to bring the best it can despite its low prices. The glass-sandwich build (glass front and glass back) has been consistent with the Umidigi A series since the inception of the A3, and the A9 Pro has taken the baton.

The smartphone has a solid metal frame and 2.5D glasses for durability. This design is premium and sleek, as almost all other devices in its category sport polycarbonate materials. The only drawback is the lack of Gorilla Glass, but that’s okay, as that would have increased the price of the smartphone.

At the front of the smartphone, there is a very slim U-shaped notch and a slim chin, making the device almost bezel-less. The chin isn’t intrusive and also helps with structural integrity. This design ensures that we have most of the screen area for our use.

The camera module cutout is located at the top left of the back of the A9 Pro. This houses the camera lenses, infrared thermometer, and LED flashlight. The fingerprint sensor is in the middle. Unlike the Umidigi Bison, there is no IP rating, though the device should at least be IP57.

Other features available include a dedicated thermometer button, SUB C, 3.5mm jack, and Dual SIM + Memory card slot.

Display

Ahh, it’s one of my favorite segments in every Umidigi article. It feels good to know Umidigi has been consistent with the 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution Full HD display on most of its smartphones. This is also present on the Umidigi A9 Pro, which has a 6.3-inch Incell LTPS screen.

This makes their display great and above decent, especially since Infinix and Tecno have decided to keep churning out 720p smartphones. The A9 Pro display is really bright, and you may experience some discomfort at night if you crank the brightness up to 100%.

The screen-to-body ratio is 92.7%, and this display has 409 pixels per inch. If the A7 Pro is good (which I am currently enjoying), then the A9 Pro is definitely superb.

Umidigi A9 Pro Camera Specifications

While the camera on the A7 Pro was a bit underwhelming, the A9 Pro corrected that with better specifications. It offers a 24MP Sony selfie shooter, a great boost over the 16MP lens on the A7 Pro.

On the rear side, you get the popular Sony 48MP Matrix Quad Camera as the main shooter, paired with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120° field of view, a 5MP depth camera, and a 5MP macro camera with a 2cm macro distance.

Just make sure you get the 128GB storage variant of this device to enjoy the 48MP Sony lens; otherwise, you will end up with a 32MP rear shooter. The camera comes with lots of software features, but there is no image stabilization.

Either way, you will still be getting crisp, clear images. If you are familiar with mods, you can add the modified version of Google Camera and get even better pictures.

Performance

Regarding performance, Umidigi still manages to make the best decisions for its smartphones while keeping down costs. Instead of going for up-to-date entry-level chips, Umidigi usually goes for an older mid-tier chip that still has great performance.

This ensures you have a smartphone performing above entry level for entry-level prices.

This smartphone has the Helio P60 Chip released in 2018, which is still very efficient and has great performance. The Helio P60 chip has 4 x Cortex-A73 chips with speeds up to 2.0GHz and 4 x Cortex-A53 chips with a max speed of 1.8GHz.

The Mali G72 GPU also ensures you can play some taxing games with good graphics and no stutter.

For memory options, you can get 4GB or 6GB of RAM paired with either 64GB or 128GB of storage. The A7 Pro’s 4GB of RAM space is quite efficient and doesn’t lag, but if you want to get the 48MP Sony camera, you need the 4GB/128GB or 6GB/128GB variant.

Battery and Connectivity

The Umidigi A9 Pro has a battery with a 450mAh capacity, which can last a full day on a full charge. If you need more juice, 10W fast charging helps refill the battery in no time.

The phone ships with stock Android 10 OS with no third-party apps, ads, or bloatware, giving you the true Android experience. The Umidigi A9 Pro is 4g dual sim smartphone, will all 4G bandwidth supported.

There is a a 3.5mm headphone jack. USB type C, WiFi 2.4GHz/5GHz bandwidth and Bluetooth 4.2. Amongst the sensors is the contact-less Infrared Thermometer that helps measure temperature of other people.
